Turf Renovation
You don't always need to rebuild your field or greens to get better usage. Drainage and renovations can drastically improve the playable hours of your turf at a fraction of the cost. There are several ways to renovate:
Primary and Secondary Drainage:
The single best thing that can be done to dry out turf and increase its playable hours. Drainage is a one-off activity with minimal maintenance but huge long-term benefits. This can either be lateral drains, sand slits or gravel bands.
Turf Aeration:
Using various spiking techniques, aerating turf helps it drain better as well as improves its drought and disease resistance. We can solid tine, verti drain or hollow core tine and sweep, depending on the season and environment.
Dethatching:
Best done in Summer when the surface is drier, dethatching, also known as scarifying, is a technique which removes the organic matter that builds up under the surface. Thatch build up reduces water penetration (drainage) and locks nutrients in the soil. We can compost scarified and swept materials at our in house facilities.
Fertilising:
Fertilising your fields helps promote the density of the grass thus keeping weeds at bay and promoting a strong root structure to avoid blow outs. Our Vicon spreader evenly distributes fertiliser quickly. We undertake a fertilising programme for a clients all throughout the year.
Undersowing and Oversowing:
Sports fields, golf greens and tees probably endure more wear and tear than any other grass. Reseeding can assist summer stressed turf, dormant grass seasons and recovery to help maintain your turf without blow outs.
Tea seed:
Earthworms can be a problem in sports fields when they disrupt the playability and aesthetics and compromises a sand carpet’s purity. Tea seed suppresses the earthworm activity and ensures a clean playing surface. Applying tea seed can be done at any time of the year though most commonly required in the wet winter months.
Sanding:
Sanding helps to improve drainage on the sports field which in turn allows the field to be used more consistently in wet weather. Another benefit of sanding fields is that the process will help to even out any hollows in the surface and creates a more readily playable pitch. We typically complete a sanding programme for our clients between Spring and Summer every year.
Spraying:
At times disease and pest species can overrun your turf where sometimes spraying is the only or the most economically option. We have a boom sprayer that can quickly and effectively manage large areas. We can offer a wide variety of solutions whether it be one off or a programme of works to manage your turf.
Drain Flushing:
Over time, roots and soil can make their way into the drains and reduce their capacity to flow freely, meaning your turf can become muddy all over again. To avoid this, regular flushing of your lateral drains can make sure they remain high performing and avoids a much costlier replacement earlier than needed.
